EACH OF THE CLASSES BELOW COST $45 PER DAY; IF YOU WISH TO OBSERVE OTHER STUDENT CLASSES OR LESSONS DURING THE DAY AND PARTICIPATE IN THE STUDENT REPERTOIRE CLASSES SAT, SUN AND THE FINAL PLAY-IN CONCERT ON SUNDAY,  THERE IS AN ADDITIONAL $35 OBSERVATION FEE PER DAY.

**BACH TO BARTOK AND BEYOND: THE COLLABORATION OF PHYSICAL GESTURES AND SOUND CONCEPTS IN THE TEACHING OF STYLE (Gail Berenson, teacher) Although it takes skill to play the piano, it also requires musical sensitivity, no matter the level of the student. This lecture will articulate some essential guidelines to help students develop their artistry and skills in expressing the emotion and style of the music form the start of their instruction. Introducing students to these crucial musical and technical concepts will help promote their independence in making musical decision.  Also included will be essential information for all style periods that is applicable to all age groups, and promotes musical and effortless performances.  Examples will be taken from the intermediate and advanced repertoire. This class meets two hours on Saturday, 9:30 to 11:30 
**STRATEGIES FOR COPING WITH PERFORMANCE ANXIETY (Gail Berenson, teacher) Some students perceive even their weekly lessons as a frightening performance.  For those students, excessive performance anxiety can stand in the way of their achieving their potential. This session will address the issue of which combination of approaches might be most helpful. The strategies to be discussed will include: 1) Breath control and Fitness; 2) Muscle relaxation; 3) Cognitive thinking;  4) Imagery; 5) Desensitization; 6) Medical advances; and 7) Practical advise.  This session will assist teachers and students in viewing performance anxiety as a positive element, not the enemy. This class meets two hours on Sunday, 9:30 to 11:30 
*I*NTRODUCING THE MUSIC MOVES  GORDON APPROACH  (Dr. Gary Pedersen, teacher) Edwin Gordon has been listed in the Music Educators Journal as one (along with Suzuki, Dalcroze, Orff and Kodaly) of the top five most influential musical educators of the last century. Learn the fundamentals that will enable you to incorporate Dr. Gordon's audition skills in lessons. Rhythm and tonal patterns are fundamental for listening, creating, and performing music with understanding and musicianship. During this interactive session, registrants will work together to experience sequenced rhythm and tonal patterns that underline all music. Get on board with the latest research on rhythm and pitch development from an aural viewpoint!  This class meets for teachers two hours daily;  teachers are also asked to observe and participate in the 1 hour student classes both days (1:30 pm) It is recommended, but not required that you attend both days.  Sa or Su or both 9:30 to 11:30
**TEACHING MUSIC HISTORY, MUSIC APPRECIATION, STYLE, AND COMPOSER STUDY THROUGH FILM  (Dr. Ray Landers, teacher.) This class is a companion course to the student music history film/recordings course.  Registrants will be asked to attend the student course also. This one hour (Sat. and Sun.)teacher course will focus on deeper historical, music theory, and stylistic aspects and composer biographies. It will show certain parts of the films that are historically important but can't be shown in the student classes because of the more adult related aspects.  A comprehensive bibliography of all the shown films (from cinema, television productions and special DVDs) and recordings played as well as additional listings.  Also included will be a written historical perspective for teachers to present to students when showing the films in their home studios. Plan on a highly educational , and a fun/invigorating experience. A special article emphasizing the fact vs. fiction aspect of the films will be given to all registrants. Composers presented iin the teacher and student classes nclude Bach,  Bach, Beethoven, Brahms, Chopin, Debussy Delius, Elgar, Grieg, Liszt, Mozart, Purcell, Rachmaninoff, Schubert, Schumann, Tchikovsy and Verdi.  This class meets at 11:30 Sa and Su, student class for observation 1:30 to 3:30 Sa and Su, may take either day or both

**OVERVIEW OF SUZUKI, DALCROZE, ORFF, KODALY AND GORDON METHODS  (Miri Farkash, teacher.)  This class will offer a brief summary of the pedagogical points as well an historical perspective of each of these modern methods.  These were the five educators that Music Educators Journal called the most influential  re music education of last century.  Emphasis will on discussion of the similarities and differences among these innovative approaches.  Suggestions will be made regarding practical applications from each  re private, public school and college teaching. This class meets 1:30 TO 3:30 Sa or Su or both.  Both days recommended but not required.
