Concerto, Sonata, and Sonatina Auditions
|

Several advanced instrumental students (including piano, strings, winds, brass, voice, and percussion) will be selected
to perform a concerto movement or another piece with orchestral accompaniment by the Concerto Orchestra during the Thursday
evening concert. In addition, piano students will be selected to perform movements of Clementi Sonatina Op. 36, No. 1 and
Op. 36, No. 3; Kuhlau Sonatina, Op. 55, No. 1; Beethoven Sonata, Op. 49, No. 2, accompanied by Mcspadden orchestra arrangements,
or movements from the four Haydn Concertini (Henle HN 188). Winners will be notified by 7/1/10. If
interested, please send the following audition materials to Dr. Ray Landers, Artistic Director, International Music Festival,
90 West Afton Ave, No. 162, Yardley, PA 19067. All materials must be postmarked by June 15,
2010. Applicants must have IMF registration forms and tuition deposit on file with the administrative director prior
to June 1st in order to be considered. Materials sent to the wrong address or postmarked after June 15th will not be accepted.

or 215-321-7811. 1. A $40.00 non-refundable application fee, check payable to IMFA. 2. A VHS or
DVD format recording of your performance, with piano accompaniment of condensed orchestra part for concertos. List name and
age of student, piece (full details including opus, key and length) and composer on the tape. *The selection may not exceed
12 minutes. A recording of the solo part alone, except in the case of the pieces for piano listed above, will not be considered.
3. A letter of recommendation from your teacher listing the piece, movement and composer, confirming that you
have learned the selection well and have thoroughly memorized it. Memory required, no exceptions. 4. A summary of your
past performance background and a brief biography including current school, honors and awards. Any application which does not fulfill all of the above 4 requirements will be disqualified *All solos
must have a commercially available orchestral accompaniment. Soloists are responsible for assisting in locating scores and
all fees associated with score rental if necessary.
Honors Student
Performances Students wishing to be considered for performance on
the Tuesday 1 p.m. Honors concert should submit a VHS format video tape to Dr. Ray Landers, Artistic Director, International
Music Festival, 90 West Afton Ave, No. 162, Yardley, PA 19067. Any concerto concert winners will
also be expected to perform on the Tuesday Honor's concert. They will play a different selection than the one on the Thursday
concerto program. It is not required, but if they wish, they may submit a video recording of that selection with their original
concerto, sonata or sonatina selection. Selected students will be notified by July 15th. REQUIREMENTS: 1. Any solo piece or movement from a classical, popular, or jazz repertoire, all instruments. 2. Memory required. 3. $10.00 non-refundable application
fee per student payable to IMF. 4. List name and age of students, piece
(full details including opus, key and length), and composer on the tape. 5.
Application deadline is a July 1st, 2010 postmark. Please include the application fee check and the tape in one envelope to
Dr. Landers. Any application which does not fulfill all of the above 5
requirements will be disqualified
In addition to the Tuesday
program, outstanding students (various instruments) will be selected by faculty during the Festival week to perform solos
on Sunday night's opening faculty honors student concert and
Friday night's final concert.

MASTER CLASSES Several students (traditional or Suzuki) will be selected by DVD or video cassette audition to perform in a master
class setting and receive suggestions for improvement in technique and musicianship. The audition recordings will be
judged by a distinguished panel. There will be three one hour long classes with observation open to IMF registrants and the
public. STRING MASTER CLASS WITH WILLIAM PREUCIL, JRWednesday, July 28th, 9 - 129 AM - Book
1/2 level students10 AM - Book 3/4 level students11 AM - Book 5 and up level studentsPIANO MASTER CLASS WITH DR. RAY LANDERSTime TBARequirements for participation in a
masterclass. 1. Open to all age levels. 2. One piece or movement must be thoroughly prepared and memorized.
The audition recording should include the accompaniment part performed on a piano (if applicable) along with the solo part. 3. Time limitations for pieces: Book 1/2 - 5 minutes,
Books 3/4 - 7 minutes, Book 5 and up - 10 minutes 4. Students will be judged on general musicianship, attention to style, memory security, stage presence, and flexibility
in accepting suggestions in a public situation 5.
A letter of recommendation from the student's current teacher with emphasis on the student's strong points, especially his/her
ability in taking constructive criticism 6.
A biography outlining the student's achievements must be included in the audition packet 7. Audition tapes will only be accepted from students who are full time registrants for the week of
IMF 8. Deadline for application form, audition
tape, letter of recommendation, and biography or due, along with a non-refundable $50 audition fee, is June 15th. Please send ALL above requirements to the IMF address listed on the application form.

BIOGRAPHIES: WILLIAM PREUCIL,
JR - WIlliam Preucil, Jr is a lauded musician, teacher, and clinician in the Suzuki organization. He is
currently concert master of the Cleveland Orchestra and has served as first violinist in the renownd Cleveland String Quartet,
known nationally through performances and recordings. Mr. Preucil was trained through the Suzuki Method from the age
of 3, and along with numerous other string members in orchestras and chamber groups internationally proves the great effectiveness
of the Suzuki Method. His parents direct the Preucil School of Music in Iowa where he studied as a child. The
Preucils have taught in Suzuki workshops and institutes worldwide and have both served as past presidents of the Suzuki Association
of the Americas. Mr. Preucil also regularly performs with other orchestras and will be appearing with the Santa Fe Symphony
later this summer. He is recognized as a truly outstanding performer and teacher. DR. RAY LANDERS - Dr.
Landers has taught and performed for thousands of students at various colleges, auditoriums, music festivals, and Suzuki Institutes
and Conferences in 46 American states and 10 other countries. He has studied with master pedagogues such as Frances
Clark, Guy Duckworth, Ivan Davis, George Bolet, and Walter Robert and has attended seminars with numerous others including
Shinichi Suzuki, Abby Simon, John Browning, Howard Gardner, and Edwin Gordon. His Doctorate is from Indiana University
where he majored in piano performance and pedagogy and minored in music history, music education, and phsychology. He
is known for his humorous and insightful classes that combine technique, style, historical study, and pure musicianship.
Several of his students have won numerous local, national, and international competitions and have performed in the prestigious
halls of New York, Philadelphia, Trenton, Chicago, Cleveland, and Vienna.
